Strengthening of Steel Connections in a 92-Year-Old Railway Bridge Using Prestressed CFRP Rods: Multiaxial Fatigue Design Criterion

چکیده

This paper presented a new retrofit system for strengthening the stringer-to-floor-beam double-angle connections in 92-year-old riveted railway bridge Switzerland, using prestressed carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) rods. The transmitted forces purely through friction, with minimum interference traffic. consisted of two components: newly developed mechanical wedge-barrel anchor to hold CFRP rod and clamping attaching stringer flange. reduced out-of-plane deformation connections, resulting reduction distortion-induced stresses connections. short-term measurements showed that application total prestressing force 100 kN dominant mean stress connection hotspot by 47% (from 22.9 10.9 MPa) under passage passenger trains, whereas range remained unchanged. Using modified Wöhler curve method (MWCM) as critical plane-based multiaxial fatigue model, was observed reduce parameter 30% train loads. long-term monitoring system, wireless sensor network (WSN) indicated no prestress loss rods during seven-month period since its installation.

Design criterion for fatigue strengthening of riveted beams in a 120-year-old railway metallic bridge using pre-stressed CFRP plates

This study presents a design criterion developed for fatigue strengthening of a 120-year-old metallic railway bridge in Switzerland and presents a pre-stressed un-bonded reinforcement (PUR) system developed to apply the strengthening. The PUR system uses carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) plates; however, unlike conventional pre-stressed CFRP reinforcement methods, preparation of the existi...

Shear Strengthening Using Cfrp Sheets for a Prestressed Concrete Highway Bridge in Manitoba, Canada

The use of heavier trucks demanded upgrading of a twenty-seven year old bridge in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Analysis of the precast prestressed concrete girders using the current AASHTO Code indicates a deficiency in the shear capacity. Shear strengthening using Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) sheets provides a low-cost solution by increasing the speed of construction and reducing traf...

Fatigue strengthening of riveted girders in a historic railway metallic bridge in Switzerland using pre-stressed un-bonded CFRP laminates

In this paper, the applicability of the constant life diagram (CLD) methodology for fatigue strengthening of metallic members is described. The CLD methodology is a method that uses the combined effect of alternating stress, mean stress and material properties to predict the material life-time under high-cycle fatigue loading. The method could be used most efficiently to improve resistance to c...

Fatigue system reliability analysis of riveted railway bridge connections

A system-based model for fatigue assessment of riveted railway bridge connections, comprising a number of basic components, is presented in this paper. Probabilistic fatigue load spectra are developed through Monte Carlo simulation of train passages over a finite element model of a typical, short-span bridge. Uncertainties arising from loading, resistance and modelling sources are taken into ac...
